Cadillac CT4 Is Gone and the CT5 Ends in December: What Owners Should Know

CT4 production ended in June and the current CT5 is due to stop on December 17. A gas-powered next-generation CT5 is coming, but probably not before 2028.

Cadillac's current sedans are reaching the end of the line. The CT4 left production in June 2026, and the current CT5 is scheduled to end on December 17, 2026, at GM's Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan, according to GM Authority. Cadillac has promised a gas-powered next-generation CT5, but it is unlikely to arrive before late 2028, leaving the brand without a new sedan in showrooms for a stretch, apart from the hand-built Celestiq.

How we got here

Cadillac announced the plan in October 2025. A memo from Global Cadillac Vice President John Roth, confirmed by Car and Driver and reported by The Drive and Motor1, said both sedans would retire after the 2026 model year. The CT4, including the CT4-V Blackwing with its 472-hp twin-turbo V6 and available manual, got no successor. Dealers stopped taking new CT4 orders the week of April 20, and the last car was built in late June.

The CT5 is a different story. Roth said "the legacy of the CT5 will continue with a next-generation ICE vehicle," built at Lansing Grand River and sold in the US and Canada. GM had once planned to convert that plant to EV production; it is now being prepared for another generation of gasoline cars instead.

The retooling is already scheduled. GM Authority, citing a state layoff notice first reported by The Detroit News, says 350 workers at Lansing Grand River and the nearby Lansing Regional Stamping plant will be laid off from January 14, 2027, while the facilities are refitted. GM said affected employees may be able to transfer to other plants or receive supplemental unemployment pay.

GM has not given a launch date for the new CT5. GM Authority's sources say it will arrive in the second half of 2028 as a 2029 model, on an updated version of the current car's rear-drive Alpha 2 platform that is also expected to underpin a new Chevrolet Camaro and a Buick sedan. GM has not confirmed those details, or whether there will be another Blackwing.

The sedans are still selling

The CT5 is not leaving because of weak demand. GM's third-quarter figures show 4,162 CT5 deliveries, up 4.1% from a year earlier and the only Cadillac nameplate to grow in the quarter. GM said the CT5 Blackwing, with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and available six-speed manual, had its best third quarter ever. CT4 deliveries, drawing on remaining stock, fell 44.2% to 793.

Buyer brief

What it means for owners

  • Warranty does not change. Coverage belongs to the car, not to the production line. For 2025 and 2026 models, GM lists Cadillac's terms as 4 years or 50,000 miles bumper to bumper, 6 years or 70,000 miles on the powertrain (transferable to the next owner), and 6 years or 70,000 miles of roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.
  • Service continues at Cadillac dealers. Cadillac has not announced any change to parts or service support. Recalls on discontinued models must still be fixed free of charge; check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
  • Keep records. With no new CT4 coming and the CT5 likely out of production for well over a year, used examples will be the only way into these cars. A documented service history is the simplest way to protect resale value, especially on Blackwings and manual cars. Dashbird can log maintenance and read trouble codes so the record stays complete.
  • Shopping for a new one: CT4s are now limited to whatever dealers still hold. The CT5 is built until December 17, so new cars remain available for now, but the choice of colors and options will narrow as the final stock sells down.
  • Waiting for the next CT5: expect a long wait. GM has given no date, and GM Authority's reporting points to the 2029 model year.
