IONNA Reaches 200 Charging Sites, Fixes a False Error on Cadillac EVs
The GM-backed fast-charging network now has 200 sites, and new dispenser software stops a false connection error on GM EVs and says when the car is slowing a charge.
IONNA, the fast-charging network that General Motors founded with seven other automakers, said on October 16, 2026, that it now has 200 charging sites open across the US. The milestone comes with software changes at the plug that matter to anyone driving a Cadillac Lyriq, Optiq, Vistiq or Escalade IQ. As GM Authority reported on October 15, IONNA's dispensers will no longer flash a misleading connection error while they wait for a GM EV to wake up, and they can now show whether the station or the car is holding charging speed back.
What changed at the dispenser
IONNA's latest software update brings four changes, per GM Authority:
- No more false error on GM EVs. At the start of a session, the dispenser has to wake the vehicle. With GM models, the screen could report a bad connection during that pause even though nothing was wrong. That message is gone.
- Who is limiting the speed. When a session runs slower than expected, the screen now says whether the charger or the vehicle is the reason.
- Clearer pricing. The cost screen explains in more detail how the price of a session is worked out.
- A note for older Teslas. Drivers of Teslas built before 2021 now get an on-screen compatibility message.
IONNA says more improvements are in development but has not said what comes next.
A network that grew quickly
IONNA opened its first site in Apex, North Carolina, in February 2025 and started this year with 80. Site number 200 is in University Place, Washington, where IONNA is charging $0.20 per kWh for two weeks to mark the occasion.
More than a quarter of the network, 53 sites, sits at Circle K stores under a partnership announced earlier this year. IONNA says those locations offer up to 400 kW and both NACS and CCS plugs, so Cadillac EVs can plug in whether they have a built-in NACS port or the older CCS port. IONNA is also preparing a flagship site in Westminster, California, with 22 charging bays and a lounge.
Every site now also has a Driver's Dashboard. Scanning the code on the dispenser opens the session on a phone, with no app, account or password, and shows energy delivered, charging speed, running cost and battery level in real time. Drivers can add an email address to receive the session details after unplugging.
For Cadillac owners who prefer to stay in one app, IONNA lists the myCadillac app among those that can start a charging session remotely at its sites.
Owner brief
What it means for owners
- If you saw a connection error before, it was likely the dispenser waiting for the car to respond, not a fault with your Cadillac. After the update, give the session a moment to start before unplugging.
- A slow session now has an explanation. No Cadillac EV can draw the full 400 kW, so on IONNA's fastest dispensers the car will usually set the top speed. Battery temperature and charge level also play a part. If the screen says the vehicle is the limit, moving to another dispenser will not help.
- Check the price before you plug in. The revised cost screen shows how the session price is calculated, and the Driver's Dashboard tracks the running total on your phone.
- Plan routes with the map. The network is still filling in, so check IONNA's site map before counting on a stop in a new area.
