Cadillac Lyriq and Vistiq get Super Cruise fixes in an over-the-air update
GM's update 661 targets Super Cruise alerts, false OnStar escalations, lane merges and lane changes on the Lyriq, Vistiq and Celestiq. Here is what changes and how to install it.

General Motors has been sending a Super Cruise software update over the air to Cadillac's electric models, and the release notes it filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in late April and early May 2026 spell out what changes. Update 661.30 for the 2026 Lyriq and update 661.20 for the 2026 Vistiq both rework how Super Cruise warns the driver before it hands back control, how it judges whether the driver is paying attention, and how it merges. The Lyriq version adds fixes to lane changes and emergency braking. Related versions cover the 2024 and 2025 Lyriq and the 2025 Celestiq.
What the update changes
Every version in this group carries the same five core items, according to the GM documents posted by NHTSA:
- Better Super Cruise disengagement alerts, the warnings that tell the driver to take over
- Better availability of Super Cruise, which GM does not explain further
- Changes to driver attention monitoring to cut unnecessary OnStar escalation calls
- Better lane merging
- A faster-responding rearview camera display
The 2026 Lyriq's update 661.30 goes further. It adds fixes to make sure Super Cruise lane changes work properly, improves Brake Assist, refines automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control braking, and fixes Forward Collision Alert and the availability of other driver-assistance features. Besides the two processors of GM's driver-assistance computer, it also updates the long-range radar. Update 661.31 for the 2024 and 2025 Lyriq includes the same Super Cruise items plus the Brake Assist and lane change work.
For the 2026 Vistiq (661.20) and the 2025 Celestiq (661.21), the notes list only the five core items, applied to the driver-assistance computer.
Why the OnStar line matters
Super Cruise uses a driver-facing camera to check that the driver is watching the road. When it decides the driver is not, it escalates its alerts, and Cadillac says Super Cruise cars are linked to OnStar Emergency Services so an advisor can step in if a driver becomes unresponsive. GM's wording points to escalations that should not have happened, with an attentive driver flagged as inattentive. The notes do not say how often that occurred, only that the new monitoring software should cut it down.
The disengagement changes affect what a driver sees and hears at the moment Super Cruise asks for control back: the light bar on the steering wheel and the messages on the driver display. GM has been working on this area for a while. An October 2025 update for the 2025 Lyriq, 653.30, included fixes for Super Cruise disengaging when it should not have.
The timing fits GM's push on the system. On April 28, 2026, GM said owners had driven 1 billion hands-free miles on Super Cruise, across nearly 750,000 equipped vehicles in North America.
Owner brief
What it means for owners
- It arrives over the air. There is no dealer visit for this one. Per Cadillac's support pages, the car downloads updates in the background while you drive, then shows a prompt on the center screen once you park. You tap install, follow the prompt to switch the vehicle off, and wait up to 20 minutes; the process cannot be interrupted once it starts.
- Check manually. Open the Settings app and select Updates to see whether a package is waiting or in progress.
- Make sure you are eligible. The vehicle needs a data connection, from the included OnStar Basics plan or Wi-Fi, and you must have accepted the OnStar User Terms and Privacy Statement. A paid OnStar plan is not required for software updates, though Super Cruise itself requires an active Super Cruise plan or trial.
- If it will not install. Cadillac says an update may not appear when conditions are not right, for example a low battery charge, and will retry later. Parking outside rather than in a garage helps the download.
- Check the version. Update numbers are reused across models for different content; a 2026 Lyriq infotainment package is also called 661.20. Read the release notes on the screen rather than going by the number alone.
If Super Cruise still drops out unexpectedly or refuses to engage on mapped highways after the update, note the location and time and report it to Cadillac support or your dealer. A documented complaint gives the dealer something concrete to diagnose if the problem persists.
