2022 Cadillac Escalade emission recall replaces the fuel pump control module

GM has added 2022 Escalade and Escalade ESV models to an emission recall for a fuel pump control module that can fail and cut fuel to the engine. The repair takes about 40 minutes.

General Motors has added the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV to a voluntary emission recall covering the part that keeps the fuel pump running. Under recall N262558690, dealers replace the fuel pump power control module at no charge. GM's September 23, 2026, update to the campaign, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, added the Escalade to the list and opened all remaining vehicles for repair.

The problem

GM says the fuel pump power control module, the electronic unit that powers the fuel pump, can fail on some vehicles, and that if it does, fuel flow to the engine could be interrupted. GM's documents describe no other symptoms. An engine that loses its fuel supply can stall or refuse to start, which is why the repair is worth doing promptly.

GM is handling this as an emission recall rather than a safety recall. That puts it under emissions rules instead of NHTSA's safety recall program, so it may not appear when you search your VIN for safety recalls at NHTSA. A Cadillac dealer, or GM's owner channels, can check it.

Which vehicles

The campaign covers a mix of GM models, mostly from the 2022 model year:

  • 2022 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
  • 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL
  • 2022-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500
  • 2022 Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Blazer, Camaro and Traverse
  • 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and Equinox, and GMC Canyon and Terrain

GM has not published how many vehicles are involved. Its bulletin says only a small number are expected to need the fix and asks dealers not to order the parts as shelf stock while supply is limited. Not every 2022 Escalade is included, so the dealer has to confirm eligibility by VIN.

GM rolled the campaign out in stages. A September 15 update expanded the list of vehicles, and the September 23 update completed the launch.

The repair

The dealer replaces the fuel pump power control module. GM puts the work at about 40 minutes, though its owner letter warns that scheduling may keep the vehicle at the dealer longer. Dealers must also fix any affected vehicles in their own inventory, including used and Certified Pre-Owned units, before selling them, and the repair is free regardless of mileage, age or ownership.

Owners who already paid to fix the same problem can ask for their money back. The reimbursement form comes with GM's letter and must reach the dealer, or GM's reimbursement department, within one year of the letter's date unless state law allows longer.

Owner brief

What it means for owners

  • Look for the letter. GM is notifying owners by mail. You can also ask any Cadillac dealer to check the VIN for recall N262558690, or call Cadillac customer assistance at 1-800-333-4223.
  • California owners: the state requires emission recalls to be completed before registration renewal. The dealer will give you a Proof of Correction Certificate; keep it with your registration papers.
  • Other states: dealers in 13 states, including New York, Massachusetts and Washington, attach a recall label after the repair. GM's letter warns that an open emission recall can lead to a failed emissions inspection.
  • Do not put it off. GM's letter says that skipping an emission recall could be treated as a lack of proper maintenance, which can matter for your emission warranty.
  • Warning signs: hard starting, stalling, or an engine that cranks without firing. If the engine stalls on the road, get to a safe spot and do not keep trying to drive.
  • Already paid for this repair? Gather the receipts and submit them with GM's form within the deadline.
