Super Cruise unavailable: GM's checklist before Cadillac dealers swap parts

A GM bulletin tells dealers to check the OnStar plan, reset and reprogram before replacing the Super Cruise camera module on Lyriq, Escalade and other Cadillacs.

When Super Cruise shows as unavailable on a Cadillac, the dealer may not reach for a new camera module right away, and General Motors now says so in writing. A revised preliminary bulletin, PIT6426C, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on September 22, 2026, gives technicians a checklist to work through before they order a replacement image processing module, the computer that handles camera data for the hands-free driving system.

Which Cadillacs are listed

The bulletin applies to vehicles with Super Cruise, option code UKL. The Cadillac models are:

  • Lyriq, 2023-2027
  • Optiq, 2025-2027
  • Vistiq, 2026-2027
  • Escalade and Escalade ESV, 2025-2026
  • Escalade IQ, 2025-2026, and Escalade IQL, 2026
  • CT5 and Celestiq, 2025-2026

It also covers Super Cruise models from Buick, Chevrolet and GMC. GM first issued the guide in September 2025 and revised it on September 15, 2026 to update the model list and rewrite the reset step.

The checklist

GM's steps start with what costs nothing:

  1. Check the subscription. Confirm the owner has the right OnStar plan for Super Cruise. Without one, the system will not work.
  2. Look for other bulletins. Check whether the complaint matches a known issue covered elsewhere.
  3. Diagnose only active codes. GM tells technicians to ignore trouble codes stored in history. When several modules report lost communication with the same module, the problem is likely the module they point to, not the ones reporting it.
  4. Reset the module. With the vehicle off, the key removed and the doors closed, the vehicle sleeps for five minutes. The technician then pulls the module's fuse, waits ten minutes and reinstalls it. If that works, the module gets any available software update.
  5. Reseat the connectors. If the problem remains, every connector on the module is unplugged and plugged back in.
  6. Reprogram. If an update is available, the module is reprogrammed and Super Cruise is tested again.
  7. Only then, replace. A new module can be ordered only after all of the above. The dealer's parts staff must confirm that each step was done before the order goes through.

Reseating the connectors is billed to the bumper-to-bumper warranty, and the allowed time varies widely: 2.0 hours on the Lyriq, 1.5 on the Escalade, 1.2 on the Optiq, 1.1 on the Escalade IQ and IQL, 0.7 on the Vistiq and 0.6 on the CT5.

Why GM wants fewer replacements

The order of steps suggests GM wants dealers to rule out a lapsed plan, a stored code from an old glitch or a module that only needs a restart before spending warranty money on hardware. For owners, it means a first visit may end with a reset and a software update rather than new parts.

This guide sits alongside narrower bulletins. GM has a separate fix for 2027 Lyriqs that set code B1599 or B0126 in the same module, and a reset procedure for 2027 Vistiqs whose OnStar connection drops, which takes Super Cruise down with it.

Owner brief

What it means for owners

  • Check your plan first. Super Cruise comes with an included OnStar period, and when that ends the system stops working until you buy a plan. Your OnStar account shows the end date.
  • Know the normal reasons. Super Cruise also switches off on unmapped roads, in heavy rain or snow, with faded lane lines or when the driver looks away too long. Those cases clear on their own.
  • When it stays unavailable, on highways where it used to work, book a dealer visit and mention bulletin PIT6426C, plus any OnStar or hotspot problems you have noticed.
  • Expect steps, not a quick swap. A reset or reprogram may come first, and a module replacement needs sign-off, which can add time.
  • Watch the warranty. A 2023 Lyriq may be past Cadillac's four-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper coverage. Ask for a quote before work begins.
  • Recalls: this is not a recall. Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Dashbird tip

Before a dealer visit for Super Cruise dropouts, note each one with its date and mileage in the service history in Dashbird, so the technician can see when the problem started and how often it returns.
