GM tells Cadillac dealers to reset garage door openers that won't program

Escalade, Lyriq, Optiq and Vistiq owners whose built-in garage door opener won't learn a code can get a quick dealer reset while GM readies a new part.

If the garage door button on your Cadillac's screen refuses to learn your opener, General Motors knows about it and has a quick dealer fix while a new part is on the way. A preliminary bulletin filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on October 2, 2026, PIT6368E, now covers 2027 models of the Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, Lyriq, Optiq and Vistiq, in addition to earlier years.

What goes wrong

The bulletin applies to vehicles with the built-in garage door opener, option code UG1, which these models operate through a virtual control on the screen. Owners report that the system will not program to their opener. When a technician scans the vehicle, code U118B is set as current, meaning the vehicle has lost contact with the garage door transmitter.

GM says the transmitter, which is built into the A103 roof console, gets stuck in what it calls a logic lock. The cause is too much message traffic on the LIN bus, a low-speed data network that links smaller modules around the vehicle. Once locked, the transmitter stops answering, and programming fails.

The fix for now

The interim repair is simple. The technician pulls the transmitter's fuse, waits one minute and puts it back, which resets the unit. The fuse sits in a different place depending on the model:

  • Escalade and Escalade ESV: fuse F3DR in the right instrument panel fuse block
  • Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL: fuse F24DR in the right instrument panel fuse block
  • Lyriq and Vistiq: fuse F31DA in the instrument panel fuse block
  • Optiq: fuse F25DA in the instrument panel fuse block

If the transmitter does not come back to life after the reset, the dealer moves on to standard diagnosis. GM says a redesigned transmitter, meaning a new roof console, is being released to stop the lockups, and that the bulletin will be revised or replaced once that part can be ordered. The reset is billed to the bumper-to-bumper warranty at 0.4 hour of labor.

A problem that keeps spreading

This bulletin has been growing for 18 months. GM created it in April 2025, when it covered only the 2025 Escalade and Escalade ESV. By August 2025 it had added the Lyriq, Optiq, Vistiq and the electric Escalades, an August 2026 revision added 2024 models, and the September 28 revision added the 2027 model year. Each version still describes a reset rather than a permanent repair, so brand-new vehicles can show the same fault.

The same bulletin lists a long run of other GM models from 2023 to 2027:

  • Buick Enclave
  • Chevrolet Blazer EV, Equinox, Equinox EV, Silverado EV, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse
  • GMC Acadia, Sierra EV, Terrain, Yukon and Yukon XL

Owner brief

What it means for owners

  • Who is affected: owners of a 2024-2027 Escalade, Escalade ESV, Lyriq or Escalade IQ, a 2026-2027 Escalade IQL or Vistiq, or a 2025-2027 Optiq whose virtual garage door opener will not program.
  • Try the basics first: follow the pairing steps in the owner's manual, and check that your opener is compatible. Some openers also need a button pressed on the opener itself during pairing.
  • At the dealer: mention bulletin PIT6368E. The dealer should confirm code U118B and reset the transmitter. GM writes these steps for trained technicians, so leave the fuse work to the shop.
  • It may come back: the reset does not cure the underlying lockup. If the opener stops responding again, return to the dealer, bring the earlier repair order and ask whether the new roof console has been released.
  • Cost: the work falls under Cadillac's four-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Early 2024 models could be close to the end of that coverage, so ask about the new part sooner rather than later.
  • Not a recall: you will not get a letter about this. You can still check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Dashbird tip

Keep a note of each garage door opener reset, with its date and mileage, in the service history in Dashbird, so you can show the dealer how often it fails when the new roof console arrives.
