Cadillac Optiq recall: front windows may not reverse when closed by key fob

GM is recalling 29,347 Optiq SUVs from 2025 to 2027 because closing the front windows from the key fob can trap something in the gap. A free software update fixes it.

General Motors is recalling 29,347 Cadillac Optiq electric SUVs from the 2025, 2026 and 2027 model years because the front windows can fail a federal pinch-protection requirement when they are closed from the key fob. GM updated its dealer bulletin in October to add the owner letter, and letters are due to be mailed starting November 9, 2026. The fix is a software update that many owners can install over the air.

What goes wrong

The Optiq lets the driver close the front windows remotely with the express-up function on the key fob. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118 requires a window that closes on its own like this to stop and reverse when it meets an object. According to GM's Part 573 safety recall report, the Optiq's front windows may not do that during the final 13 mm of travel, about half an inch, before the glass reaches the top of the door frame. Anything caught in that gap, including fingers, could be pinched.

GM traces the problem to a calibration set by its supplier, Kwangjin America: the window electronics stop watching for an obstruction too far below the top of the frame. The recall describes the problem only for windows closed from the fob.

How it was found

In June 2026 a dealer reported that the windows on four 2026 Optiqs did not seem to stop and reverse when closed with the fob. GM's engineers tested five vehicles in July and, by changing the angle of the test rod, found four that did not meet the requirement every time. GM opened an investigation on July 28, decided on a recall on September 17 and filed it with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on September 24 as campaign 26V612. GM says it knows of no complaints from owners.

Which vehicles are covered

  • 2025 Optiq: 12,558 vehicles built from July 24, 2024 to March 12, 2026
  • 2026 Optiq: 10,201 vehicles built from June 5, 2025 to May 29, 2026
  • 2027 Optiq: 6,588 vehicles built from March 3 to September 22, 2026

GM estimates that every one of them has the condition. GM Authority reports that another 10,172 vehicles are covered in Canada.

The fix

GM will update the window calibration in the body control module. Owners who have accepted GM's connected-vehicle terms will see an on-screen prompt to install it over the air. According to GM's update screens, installation takes about 10 minutes with the vehicle parked and switched off, and during that time the SUV cannot be driven and the locks and windows may not respond. A dealer can also do the job, which GM allows half an hour of labor for. Either way it is free.

One detail matters: GM's screens say that if you decline the over-the-air update, you cannot install it that way later and will need a dealer instead. Dealers have also been told to hold any unsold Optiq in their stock until the update is done.

Owner brief

What it means for owners

  • Check your VIN. Enter it at nhtsa.gov/recalls or search for campaign 26V612. GM's own number is N262567230.
  • Watch the center screen. If a "Vehicle update is available" message mentions recall N26-2567230, install it when the Optiq can sit parked for 10 minutes. GM's instructions warn not to lock anyone inside while it runs.
  • Until it is fixed, close the windows from inside the car, or make sure nothing and nobody is in the way before using the fob, especially around children.
  • Prefer a dealer? Ask for the update at your next service visit. Cadillac customer service is 1-800-458-8006.
  • Buying a used Optiq? Ask for proof that the recall is closed. A dealer can confirm it from the VIN.

Dashbird tip

Once the update is installed, note the date and mileage in the service history in Dashbird, so the closed recall is on record when you sell the car.
