Recall

Nearly two-thirds of recalled Cadillac Vistiqs still need the seat fix

GM's latest recall reports show only 35% of the 14,540 Vistiqs in the third-row seat recall were repaired by September. Here is where every Cadillac recall stands.

About two in three Cadillac Vistiqs covered by this summer's third-row seat recall had not been fixed by the end of September, according to General Motors' latest completion figures. GM submitted its third-quarter recall reports to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on October 7, 2026, and NHTSA posted them on October 20. They show that 5,018 of the 14,540 Vistiqs in campaign 26V394 had been repaired, about 35%. GM's own owner letters went out starting August 6.

The Vistiq seat recall

The recall covers 13,629 of the 2026 Vistiq and 911 of the 2027 model. In GM's Part 573 report, the problem is that a single press of the "down" button in the cargo area, or on the pillar beside the seat, folds a third-row seatback into its stowed position, and the seatback stops rather than reversing if it meets something in its path. GM warns that a smaller passenger could end up trapped underneath. It counted six incidents or complaints besides the internal report that started the investigation, none with injuries.

The remedy is software. Dealers reprogram the folding seat module so the seatback heads back toward upright when it meets enough resistance to stall. Owners who had the power-fold feature switched off as a stopgap can get it turned back on, with the update, under a separate customer satisfaction campaign.

The quarterly report also lists 121 Vistiqs as unreachable, meaning GM's letters could not be delivered, and 46 as removed from the count because they were scrapped, stolen or exported.

How the other Cadillac recalls stand

The same batch of reports covers other open campaigns that include Cadillacs. These counts include Chevrolet and GMC vehicles where they share a campaign, because GM's quarterly reports do not split the totals by brand. "Remedied" also includes vehicles that were inspected and did not need parts.

  • Escalade 24-inch wheel hub bolts (26V304): 1,574 of 2,457 vehicles remedied, up from 418 three months earlier, with 11 unreachable. Escalades and Escalade ESVs make up 2,125 of the total. Report.
  • Do-not-drive transfer case recall (26V289): 42 of 66 vehicles remedied, up from 33. Eight are Cadillacs: four 2026 Escalades, two 2026 Escalade ESVs and one each of the 2015 Escalade and ESV. GM's advice not to drive these vehicles until they are repaired still stands. Report.
  • Escalade IQ and IQL battery recall (26V494): 1 of 11 vehicles remedied. Five are Cadillacs, and the fix is a full battery replacement. Report.
  • 2024 Lyriq rearview camera (26V082): 20 of 22 vehicles remedied. Report.

The newest Cadillac campaign, the Optiq key fob window recall (26V612), has no completion report yet. GM's letters to those owners are due to go out from November 9, 2026.

Owner brief

What it means for owners

  • Check your VIN, even if you never got a letter. Enter it at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Letters miss owners who moved or bought the vehicle used, which is what the unreachable count reflects.
  • Vistiq owners: the seat fix is a dealer reprogram, not a parts order, so the visit should be short. Until it is done, look into the third row before you press the fold button, and never fold the seats with a child or pet back there.
  • If you asked for the fold feature to be disabled, ask the dealer to apply the update and switch it back on under the companion campaign.
  • Transfer case recall: do not drive the vehicle. Call a Cadillac dealer to arrange a tow, or Cadillac Customer Assistance at 1-800-333-4223.
  • Buying a used Cadillac: ask the seller for the repair order showing each recall was closed, and check the VIN yourself before you pay.

Dashbird tip

Once a recall repair is done, record the date and mileage in the service history in Dashbird, so the PDF report shows the closed recall when you sell the car.
