General Motors will install a new high-voltage battery, again, in a small number of electric vehicles that already had their original pack replaced, among them the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq and the 2025-2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ. Customer satisfaction program N262565450, dated October 26, 2026, says some remanufactured packs GM used as replacements were built with battery modules that should not have been reused.
What GM found
The issue sits in the parts supply rather than in the cars as built. When an Ultium EV needs a new battery, GM fills the order with either a new pack or a remanufactured one, depending on the battery, the vehicle and what is in stock. According to the bulletin, some of the remanufactured packs were assembled from modules that did not meet GM's criteria for reuse. Any vehicle that received one of those packs now needs a second replacement.
The program is small. GM counts 66 vehicles in the US across all of its brands, and says none is sitting in dealer inventory or in transit. It does not say how many are Cadillacs, and it does not describe a specific symptom or safety risk. This is a customer satisfaction program, not a safety recall, so it has no NHTSA campaign number.
Which vehicles are included
- 2024 Cadillac Lyriq
- 2025-2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ
- 2024-2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV and Silverado EV, and the 2025 Equinox EV
- 2023 BrightDrop 600 and 2025 BrightDrop 400 vans
- 2022-2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup, 2024-2026 Hummer EV SUV and 2024-2026 Sierra EV
Only vehicles that already had a battery replaced with an affected remanufactured pack are involved. Dealers have to confirm each VIN in GM's warranty system before starting work.
How the repair works
The dealer removes the pack and installs another one. It is a long job: GM's published labor time is 8.9 hours for the Lyriq, or 9.4 hours with option code XFD, and 10.6 hours for the Escalade IQ. Only an authorized EV dealer with a technician who has completed GM's high-voltage training may do the work, and the dealer needs a forklift and hoist rated for the pack.
The repair is free regardless of mileage, age or how many owners the vehicle has had, until November 30, 2028. After that date, GM says, the regular warranty applies. Owners who already paid for repairs related to this condition can ask for reimbursement within one year of the date on GM's letter. GM tells dealers to hold any affected used or Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in stock until it is fixed, and to de-certify CPO units until the job is done.
This program is separate from recall 26V494, under which GM is replacing the battery in five 2026 Escalade IQ and IQL SUVs because a part inside some modules may not be secured.
Owner brief
What it means for owners
- Who should pay attention: owners of a 2024 Lyriq or a 2025-2026 Escalade IQ that has already had its high-voltage battery replaced. If yours never had battery work, it is very unlikely to be included.
- Watch for the letter. GM is notifying affected owners by mail. You can also ask a Cadillac dealer to check your VIN for N262565450, or call Cadillac Customer Assistance at 1-800-333-4223.
- Book early and confirm the dealer. GM's letter asks owners to schedule promptly so the battery is on hand, and to make sure the dealer is EV certified.
- Plan for a day or more without the car. With roughly nine to eleven hours of labor plus the battery shipment, ask about a loaner when you book. GM's bulletin ties courtesy transportation to its usual eligibility rules.
- Keep the paperwork. Save the repair order from both battery replacements. A record of two new packs is useful when you sell the car.
- Buying used? Ask whether the Lyriq or Escalade IQ has had a battery replaced, and have a dealer check the VIN for open programs before you buy.
Dashbird tip
If your Lyriq or Escalade IQ has had its battery replaced, log both jobs with the date and mileage in the service history in Dashbird, so the next buyer sees the full battery record in its PDF report.
